The Children’s Act of Ghana
Domestically, in Ghana, the Children’s Act (Act 560) of 1998 under the 1992 constitution defines
a child as a person below the age of 18. The Act further states that:
No person shall force a child: (1) (a) to be betrothed; (b) to be the subject of a dowry
transaction; or (c) to be married; (2) the minimum age of marriage of whatever kind shall
be eighteen years (18 years).
